Zim-India Explore ICT Opportunities

The Indian government is keen on working with Zimbabwe in providing key technological expertise necessary for the development of the ICT Park under government’s Special Economic Zones initiative.

Speaking to journalists after a closed door meeting with ICT Postal and Courier Services Minister Supa Mandiwanzira, the Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe His Excellency Rungsung Masakui said there are vast opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.

“There is a huge area for collaboration. We are planning a visit from here to India and also if we can have a delegation from india to visit here. Hon minister has mentioned that there is a specific area designated for the ict ministry which is under special economic zone.

“So if Indian investors or industrialists can come and see the potential for developing a kind of a bungalow here in Zimbabwe it’s something we are looking forward to and hopefully in months to come we will collaborate more, we will talk more and we can find the areas we can focus on for deeper collaboration,” he said.

He added that they are willing to transform the ICT Park to a Zimbabwe Bangalore version.

“We don’t have to reinvent the wheel we are friendly nations and whatever pitfalls we had in the past may not be repeated in the future,” he said.

Minister Mandiwanzira noted that Zimbabwe needed some of the ICT training skills found  in India.

“So we had a meeting with the ambassador of India to discuss the possibility of our industry corporation with the Indian industry. Of our governments corporating in terms of sending people to India and some of their specialised institutions that teach some of the skills that we desperately needs in Zimbabwe. We are looking at huge corporation between our countries, our ministries, governments and private sector,” he said.
