Speaking at the workshop, Mr Darlick Marandure, Chief Technical Officer of Zimpapers, commented that from the signs and numbers dropping the print media is dying. This calls for a need to be innovative and proactive to revamp the business. He urged mainstream media publishers to embrace digital ‘disruption’ and not fight it.

From the discussions going on, the main challenge to the digital media has been lack of depth in the content as opposed to main stream, however coverage in real time and free access edges it better.

“News now breaks digitally before virally spreading across other platforms like television or print which are generally more trusted sources,” says Marandure.

Of concern across all media was need for stringent media ethical practices especially on crediting sources in light of aggregation. There has been a cry in the industry as some publishers are carelessly copying and pasting information without crediting their sources.

The two day conference graced by mainstream and digital publishers, amongst others, had the players embracing coexisting to serve the information consumer through relevant, reliable and value adding premium content.
