The Zimbabwe`s new cabinet has just been announced and our greatest area of interest which is ICT portfolio has been given to a minister well known in the government business for years Honourable Webster Shamuyarira.
Shamuyarira has been the minister of information and publicity and has served quite well with the media fraternity and journalists overally.
To add more responsibility the minister will take over the whole portfolio which was once shared over with the ministry of transport, communication and infrastructure development, It is now called the ministry of transport so Shamuyarira takes over the whole ICT and communication.
Honourable Shamuyarira replaces the youthful and vibrant Honourable Nelson Chamisa who in his last tenure hcontributed well enough under his ministry with driving the national ICT policy, unfortunately he did not see it launched during his days.
The button has now been handed to Honourable shamuyarira and we are quite interested in seeing how well he will turn the technological titanic for the development of ICTs in Zimbabwe.
Although Shamuyarira has been in the government business for years, some critics doubt if a man of his age, a (BBC) Born way Before Computers will have the right “spark” and interest as far as the new technological industry is concerned.
Some have also said that it does not really take any particular qualification to head a ministry as we have previously seen qualified lawyers by profession like Tendai Biti steering the financial portfolio.
Well what are your thoughts.
