The Deputy Prime minister of Zimbabwe Professor Arthur Mutambara has thrown weight behind Ecocash amid revelations that there are plots by some banks to use government as a tool to fight EcoCash.
The Deputy Prime minister said that “Some of you are trying to use us to fight Ecocash, No-o we do not do that, some of you are asking us to penalize them”, without stating the names of these orchestrators, he blatantly refused to give in to such demands.
He said this during his key note address at the grand official opening of the ICT for Africa 2013 conference yesterday at Cresta Lodge Harare in Zimbabwe, an event graced by more than 20 countries representatives from Africa.

EcoCash a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has been seriously changing the way Zimbabweans trade and pay goods via mobile money hence wooing millions of customers as the telecommunication giant bought in TN Bank to fully gear up the EcoCash system
Professor Arthur Mutambara said Ecocash is now the biggest bank in Zimbabwe and we should pave way for innovation and creativity not to form subtle ways of fighting technology.
“EcoCash from Econet is the biggest bank in Zimbabwe”, he said
He castigated banks which wants to use government against Ecocash and provoked them to compete fairly instead of using unscrupulous ways to win the market.
“do not use laws to fight against technology, be competitive “ added the Deputy Prime Minister.
Prior to this TechnoMag had broken the story of open confrontation in a gloves attack between EcoCash and one of Zimbabwe`s biggest bank, Cabs and a spat of attacks from the ex Zimbabwe Bankers Association President Mr John Mushayavanhu.
The Banks raised concerns that EcoCash is not fairly trading and seriously encroaching in their line of business.
