SAGIT launches Atlas Convention

Centre for Science and Advanced Global Innovation Technologies (SAGIT) in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education today launched the Atlas Convention in the capital.

The Atlas Convention is an integrated national-technology and economic transformation initiative that will converge government, private sector and academia with its focus on bridging academia and industry to drive innovation with a global perspective that will help Zimbabwe attain world-class industry standards.

This initiative is set to redefine the innovation agenda in Zimbabwe through the creation of opportunities for collaboration between industry and academia that transcend conventional organisational boundaries.

SAGIT executive Chairman, Tamuka Macheka said the initiative is set to redefine the innovation agenda in Zimbabwe through the creation of opportunities for collaboration between industry and academia that transcend conventional organization.

“Running under the theme Igniting Infinite Possibilities, the Atlas Convention aims to advance science, innovation and technology by providing a platform for the convergence of key local and global investors and local businesses,”

“This knowledge exchange platform facilitates the transfer of technology from universities to industry. Our aim is to also create a strong local cross-sector presence as well as an international value-based network of partnerships that drive innovation and technology,” he said.

The Challenge will run under the patronage of the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Professor Amon Murwira.

The portal for prospective competitors to register their ideas will be accessible on the 25th of November.

Winning teams from the participating universities will exhibit at the 2020 Emirates Think Science World Fair to be held at the World Trade Centre in Dubai from 18 – 23 April 2020.
