Zimbabwe Telecommunications and technology players today stampeded at crowne plaza for the annual Zimbabwe Business Awards, the hallmark and premiere business awards in the country as they seek to recognize various business players in Zimbabwe.
Amongst other business sectors, it was interesting to notice strong representation by various ICT players in Zimbabwe, a sign that proves that the sector is also well considered as a pillar to the development of the socio-economic fraternity of the nation.

PowerTel Communications, a subsidiary of ZESA holdings licensed with a Class A Internet Access Provider license for operation in Zimbabwe, scooped the ICT company of the year award., while their new acquisition, Mr Prosper Mutswiri scooped the young businessman of the year award.
In the telecommunications category, Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, dominated and received the telecommunications of the year award, whilst Zifm received the radio station of the year award.
In a well supported team, a great show of teamwork, MALCOM, a graphic and designing team made people feel its presence, donning uniform clothes, their presence was later deeply felt when they were bagged the Graphic Designer of the year award.
Zimbabwe Online(ZOL), gave its clients yet another reason to trust in their brands when they received the internet services of the year award ,”these awards symbolise greatness and business ,”said,( ZOL) CEO, Denny Marandure.
Telone boss, Mrs Chipo Mtasa scooped the businesswoman of the year award.
The COO of the year award went to Africom`s Chief operation Officer Ms Rudo Mudavanhu.
The animator of the year award was taken by Nqobizitha Mlilo of Nafuna TV.
Media Company of the year award went to Adrenaline.
On the other hand, the radio personality of the year award was bagged by bubbly Zifm presenter Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa, whilst newspaper of the year award was received by Herald Zimbabwe. and Obey Makamure, popularly known by his fans as Tocky Vibes, walked away with the recording and performing artist of the year award and Mai Chisamba received the television personality of the year award before Philip Chiyangwa stole the show after he was presented with the life time achievement, businessman of the year award.
Renowned business moguls like Shingi Munyeza were also present scooping various awards for their contributions to the Zimbabwean business landscape.
“The awards are a national honour, a celebration of excellence, inspiration and success …” said Dr E Gomba who won the entrepreneurship of the year award.
Some critics have however complained about the criteria used to nominate and award individuals and companies, claiming that there is no diversity in the choices of companies and personalities, largely we felt that every contestant was merely rewarded by an award without due scrutiny into every category awarding some undeserving members.
